Alligator Gar Scales
Alligator Gar Scales
Alligator gar are fish primarily found in the southern United States and have lived on this planet for over 100 million years. They have a slim number of natural predators and it’s pretty easy to see why. Unlike other fish, their scales are actually made of interlocking bones. They serve as a protective armor to the gar, which can weigh up to 350 pounds and can grow up to ten feet long.
• These scales make the alligator gar nearly impenetrable since each scale is covered with the crystalline and enamel-like coating of ganoine.
• If you should ever come across these living freshwater fossils, don’t be alarmed—there are no recorded incidents of human attacks.
- Each specimen bottle includes 10 or more scales. Please allow for slight variations in size similar to photos.
