Fluorite Octahedron
Fluorite Octahedron
Further information:
Fluorite is the mineral form of calcium fluoride, CaF2. It belongs to the halide minerals. It crystallizes in isometric cubic habit, although octahedral and more complex isometric forms are not uncommon. The Mohs scale of mineral hardness, based on scratch hardness comparison, defines value 4 as Fluorite.
Pure fluorite is transparent, both in visible and ultraviolet light, but impurities usually make it a colorful mineral and the stone has ornamental and lapidary uses. Industrially, fluorite is used as a flux for smelting, and in the production of certain glasses and enamels. The purest grades of fluorite are a source of fluoride for hydrofluoric acid manufacture, which is the intermediate source of most fluorine-containing fine chemicals.
Optically clear transparent fluorite lenses have low dispersion, so lenses made from it exhibit less chromatic aberration, making them valuable in optics. Fluorite optics are also usable in the far-ultraviolet and mid-infrared ranges, where conventional glasses are too absorbent for use.

I am very happy with this purchase! The crystal is great, with interesting explanations. My daughter was very happy and we will test its fluorescence with UV light (I hope that I have the good wavelentgh)! It was well packed, everything is perfect!
Shipping , hard to track, was 'intransit' till it arrived (early)
Made it a better supprise.
Stones, better than I requested.
Colors bright, size large, selections exactly as I asked.
Item perfect for my needs, satisfied, once again,
Pete
To all buyers who 'assume' this is standard, in any way I challenge you to go to a walmart and get treated HALF AS WELL.
I got a decent Medium crystal with two hues. My sample didn't fluoresce under a UV flashlight; but it's still a big honkin crystal; very pretty in the sunlight.
Received a gorgeous two tone (blue to clear) stone that was significantly larger than I expected, at the absolute greatest end of the medium size range. I am considering another purchase of the smaller size and will update if I do so.
love the colours
