Gallium

Gallium

28 total reviews

Gallium is a metal with a very low melting point. In fact it will melt in your hand after a few minutes. Once it is liquified, it is an interestingly dense liquid, similar to mercury (except gallium is non-toxic!) This vial contains 15g of this interesting element.

Non-toxic, but we wouldn't eat it. Like water, gallium expands when frozen, so don't store it in glass.

      Gallium Boy

My 6 year old grandson told me he HAD to have some Gallium would I get some? I had never heard of it and anyone I asked hadn't either. So he was very excited to get some! Fast shipping. He got to teach his teacher too! Thanks for making me the best Grampa ever! According to him! Stephen

      Exceeded expectations!

Came in the mail quickly. The vial of gallium was in a nice little pouch, and was a little bit bigger amount than I expected it to be, so that was nice! The kids had fun playing with it. (So did us adults!)

      Cool items

Just ordered gallium, Mars regolith, and a few other items. Awesome products to display, and good pricing.

Woooo! Decent size sample in a convenient plastic container

If you're like me, you're worried about "losing" some of the gallium due to experimentation. One of the things I was most worried about was whether it would "wet" the side of whatever container it's melted in - thus obscuring the view, and depending on where you poured it; losing material. However, I found that the plastic tube this was delivered in DOES allow it to be melted without wetting the sides, so we easily liquified and observed; and then let it cool back to frozen/solid.

This stuff is great! It comes in a little vial that I plopped in some hot water to melt down and put in a petri dish. It's very fun to play with! Sort of like a mix between soldering metal when it's super heated and mercury. I recommend getting it, even if just for display!
