Pole Detector
Pole Detector
This tool works on the same principle of a compass, but instead of aligning to Earth’s magnetic field, it was designed to align to smaller, more concentrated magnetic fields like your refrigerator magnets. It is important to know magnet’s polarity in many electrical and scientific applications. By detecting a permanent magnet’s poles, this tool helps determine how to safely handle a magnet.
Since the indicator magnet can rotate in 3 dimension, it also provides a great visual aid for determining the size, shape, and strength of magnetic fields.
The north pole of the detector is painted red and the south is painted blue for clear distinction. When held to the south pole of a magnet, the red tip of the detector’s north pole will point toward the magnet and vice versa. Remember: opposites attract!
