Quaking Aspen Seeds
Quaking Aspen Seeds
The quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides) is a deciduous tree native to North America, known for its trembling leaves, impressive size (reaching over 50 feet in height and 40 feet in spread), and shallow root system that allows it to regenerate quickly after disturbance.
It is also a clonal species, meaning that it can produce
clones of itself by sending out underground shoots called “suckers” which grow into genetically identical trees.
This reproductive strategy allows the quaking aspen to spread and colonize new areas efficiently, often resulting in large groves of genetically identical trees connected by underground shoots. In fact, a quaking aspen colony of nearly 50,000 trees in Utah, named Pando, is considered the most massive organism in the world and among the oldest as well.
The quaking aspen is a fascinating and highly adaptable tree as well as a rapidly renewable resource, making it an important component of many North American ecosystems.
Each vial contains approximately 50 seeds
