This box includes two samples of regolith engineered to be chemically and physically identical to the surface dust of the two primary regions of the Moon.

Lunar Mare Regolith Simulant is based on the darker regions of the moon, most of which are facing Earth. These areas are basins formed by lava flows after intense bombardment about 4 billion years ago.

Lunar Highlands Regolith Simulant is based on the brighter and older regions of the moon. These areas include most of the moon's craters.

Over the Moon with Happiness

My 8 year old son is all about all things space. We recently purchase him a telescope and he is fascinated by the moon. When I saw the simulated lunar dust I just knew that I had to get them for him. The jars are packaged so well and arrive in perfect condition. He was over the moon with joy when he opened the package. While I cannot tell you if it compares to actual lunar dust (having never visited the moon) it is very cool to feel the different textures. My son says that he'll let me know if it feels like the real stuff when he becomes an astronaut.
