Particle Accelerator Magnet Coil – Aladdin Synchrotron Artifact
A genuine electromagnetic coil removed from a beam-steering magnet used in the Aladdin electron storage ring at the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Synchrotron Radiation Center.
Each coil was originally mounted around one of the six iron poles of a sextupole magnet. When energized with direct current, the copper winding generated a magnetic field that was concentrated and shaped by the surrounding steel core. Together, the six coils produced a precisely controlled field used to correct and stabilize a beam of electrons traveling through the accelerator at nearly the speed of light.
The winding is covered by layers of electrical insulation and a yellow protective coating designed to withstand heat, vibration and prolonged use in a research environment. Visible wear, discoloration, chipped coating and remnants of mounting hardware are expected and reflect the coil’s history as a working scientific component.
These coils have been removed from the original magnet assembly and are sold individually as retired scientific artifacts. They are suitable for display, educational collections, industrial décor, accelerator-physics exhibits or anyone who would like to own a tangible piece of particle-accelerator engineering.
Details
- Authentic coil from the Aladdin synchrotron
- Certificate of Authenticity included
- Originally part of a six-pole sextupole beam-correction magnet
- Copper electromagnetic winding with insulating and protective outer layers
- Removed from a decommissioned research instrument
- Sold as an individual display artifact
- Condition varies due to age, use and disassembly
- Not tested and not sold as functional electrical equipment
The item received may differ slightly from the example shown. Each coil has its own pattern of wear, surface marks, wiring remnants and signs of use.
This is not a replica or a decorative reproduction. It is an original component from a machine built to control electrons moving at nearly the speed of light.
