Pioneer Plaque Pin
Pioneer Plaque Pin
Pioneer 10 & Pioneer 11 were space probes launched in the early 1970s designed to study Jupiter, Saturn, and the heliosphere. These probes were the first to fly through the asteroid belt and they also provided some of the best images of the gas giants of the time. As they continue to drift away, no longer in contact with Earth, they are among only 5 artificial objects with the velocity to the solar system. They are now over 10 billion miles from Earth.
A plaque with this same design was affixed to both Pioneer probes expected to leave the solar system; a message in a bottle for any extraterrestrial life that might find them. By wearing this pin, you are a pioneer—spreading human curiosity across the universe.
