Tungsten's atomic number is 74 and its symbol is W. Tungsten is also known as wolfram. These two names come from ores that tungsten is often harvested from. Tungsten claims the title for having the highest melting point of any element. This makes it useful for making things like x-ray tubes or light bulb filaments.

Because tungsten is very heavy and hard it is used in military applications such as armor-piercing bullets. It is used in the jewelry business to make tungsten carbide jewelry such as rings. It is good for this application because it will withstand wear and abrasion longer than typical jewelry materials.
