Magnetite Octahedron
Magnetite octahedra are natural iron-oxide crystals sculpted by the quiet geometry of atomic symmetry.
Each razor-straight edge traces how Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions lock into the spinel lattice, creating one of Earth’s most magnetisable minerals—capable of achieving magnetizations above 480,000 A/m when its magnetic domains align.
These crystals form in igneous and metamorphic environments where temperatures exceed 500 °C, allowing iron atoms to settle into their optimal architecture. The resulting mineral is dense enough to sink in saltwater, dark enough to swallow nearly all incoming light, and stable enough to carry traces of Earth’s ancient magnetic field for billions of years.
Each one is a tiny, angular archive of planetary physics— matter shaped by heat, pressure, and the subtle forces that teach iron how to remember direction.
Includes one octahedron in a protective capsule.
